Thanks to a $25,000 grant, officials of the City of Shiner will build a toddler playground in Welhausen Park.

The grant is coming from the Lower Colorado River Authority. The playground will be designed for children who are up to 5 years old and feature climbing access, a slide and bongo drums.

“The park is in the center of the city, has ample street parking and is easily accessible to parents with strollers to take their children, which is why we chose this park,” said Michael Ulbig, director of Shiner Public Works, said. “I had been interested in building the playground for a while and was considering making room in the city’s 2021 budget to make it happen. The LCRA grant helped move the project forward. I noticed parents and grandparents who took toddlers to the park would have to follow them around to keep them from picking up things off the ground, or they had to put toddlers on playsets that were designed for older children. The new playground will help solve these problems. It will be kept clean and have playsets designed with toddlers in mind.”
