The coronavirus and subsequent social distancing guidelines didn’t stop hundreds of Central Texans from taking on Bluebell Ice Cream’s Fun Run.

State Rep. Ben Leman (R-Brenham) was among the dozens to share a snapshot of via Facebook after completing the run.

He added the caption, “Thank you Blue Bell Ice Cream for hosting a virtual Fun Run!"

He also added a bit of history about the race.

“Started in 1978, this race benefits the Brenham High School athletic program through an organization called Run for the Youth of Washington County," Leman posted. "Brenham High School athletes serve as volunteers for the race to benefit numerous winning athletic programs.”

However, because of the coronavirus and the mandate to quarantine, this year has taken on a virtual form. Participants were able to complete the Kids’ 1-mile, 5K, 10K, or half-marathon distance from anywhere in the world during the week of April 12.
