VICTORIA COLLEGE: VC offering students flexible instructional options for fall semester

Victoria College issued the following announcement.

Students attending Victoria College this fall will have five instructional options to choose from.

Victoria College has announced its plans to offer five instructional methods during the upcoming fall semester to provide students flexibility during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to traditional face-to-face, online and hybrid courses, Victoria College will offer real-time remote classes and an alternating method that will allow students to take classes face-to-face and remotely in real time.

“Things will look a little bit different this fall, but because of the flexibility and commitment of our faculty and staff, our students’ needs will be met as they face the challenge of pursuing their educational goals during this pandemic,” said VC President David Hinds.

The real-time remote courses will meet at a regularly scheduled time, but students will participate via WebEx video conferencing instead of attending class on campus. Students enrolled in alternating courses will meet in small groups on assigned days and will participate remotely via WebEx on alternating days.

“Victoria College faculty and staff are working quickly to adjust their classes to the new instructional methods,” said Cindy Buchholz, VC’s vice president of instruction. “We want to give students multiple options and feel that these five methods will help keep students safe while providing them with the quality instruction they expect.”

The majority of the course changes in the Fall 2020 schedule will be made by July 27.

Due to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations, students taking classes on campus will be required to wear a facial covering, have their temperatures taken and pass a health screening before entering the classroom. Social distancing will also be required. For Victoria College’s COVID-19 updates, visit VictoriaCollege.edu/COVID-19.

“We understand students are concerned about their safety during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Buchholz said. “VC is taking every measure possible to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the VC community.”

Along with the additional learning options, Victoria College is also offering technology resources to help students learn remotely. VC’s Technology Services Department will loan out laptops and WiFi hotspots to students. Resources can also be purchased at the VC Bookstore.

Support services such as tutoring and academic coaching will also be offered remotely.

Registration is underway for the fall semester, which is scheduled to begin Aug. 24. Information is available at VictoriaCollege.edu/ClassSchedule to assist students in selecting classes that are offered in their preferred instructional methods.

Victoria College remains open to the public, but students are encouraged to take advantage of VC’s remote services and virtual appointments when possible. VC’s Advising and Counseling Services Office is available to assist students remotely or in person, but appointments are required.
