Cost of college went up for all students at Wharton County Junior College

In-state tuition and fees rose 0.3 percent for 2018-19 at Wharton County Junior College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Texas residents paid $3,576 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $10 more than the $3,566 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 34.9 percent more than residents this year, or $4,824. Their price tag grew 0.2 percent from $4,814 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Texas residents. And about 1 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 58 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 569 students received grants or scholarships totaling $2.9 million and 344 students took out student loans totaling more than $1.7 million.

Including all undergraduates (6,768), 2,655 students used grants or scholarships totaling $14.3 million, and 1,199 students took out $5.8 million in federal student loans.
