As President-elect Joe Biden's COVID-19 advisory board continues to weigh solutions for the expanding pandemic, Texans brace for the possibility of another national shutdown which has drawn ire and support from all corners of the state.

Click 2 Houston reports the idea of another national shutdown has been floated by Biden's advisers, who at one point suggested a four-to-six week lockdown in order to bring surging coronavirus cases under control. If the federal government could pay the stimulus required to keep businesses and citizens afloat during the lockdown, "then we could lockdown for four to six weeks and if we did that, we could drive the numbers down,” Biden surrogate Dr. Michael Osterholm said during an online appearance.

Osterholm has since walked his comments back, explaining he was referring to an earlier article. GOP officials in Texas are hugely skeptical of another national lockdown, as Deborah Frank, Fayette County Republican Party chair, explained to SC Texas News.

"A shutdown will severely weaken, if not destroy, the American economy; there will be significant detrimental psychological effects; increase in murders, child and spousal abuse, divorces, suicides, etc.," she said.

On whether Americans would abide by a national lockdown's rules, Frank felt it was highly unlikely.

"I think most Americans who are not the sheep of the Democrat Party will rebel against a forced order such as that," Frank said. "They fooled us once with the promised “14 day” shutdown in March, which turned into months. We will not fall for it again."

While the Biden team has continuously sounded the alarm over COVID-19, Frank felt the concern was overblown when compared to the flu.

"The “worsening of COVID” is more fake news and a control tactic (by instigating panic) of the corrupt Democrats and supported by the fake news media and social platforms," she argued. "Survival rate of COVID 19 is in the 90% range. If the seasonal flu had been tested and tracked like COVID-19, I believe we would see much higher cases and death rate numbers."

Her concern is felt by many Americans who feel as if the pandemic is being used as a tool for control rather than protecting the population. However, until the president-elect enters office, if that turns out to be the case, it is impossible to guess what course of action might be taken.

Until then Texans and the rest of the country will continue to look toward senior leaders for what their policies will truly be.
