Nixon-Smiley CISD Education: 1,065 students were enrolled in schools in 2021-22 school year

There were 1,065 students enrolled in Nixon-Smiley CISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 4.9% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 50.1% of them were girls, and 49.9% were boys.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 75.8% of the Nixon-Smiley CISD total enrollment.

Nixon-Smiley CISD roughly covers schools within Gonzales County with its main office in Nixon.

Among the five schools in Nixon-Smiley CISD, Nixon Smiley Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of 475 students in the 2021-22 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
