Karnes County County Schools: Which ethnicity was most represented in 2021-22 school year?

Of the many ethnicities represented in Karnes County County schools, Hispanic was the most prevalent ethnicity among Karnes County County students in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 2,433 students attending Karnes County County schools, 71.1% were Hispanic. White students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 26.2% of Karnes County County students.

In the previous school year, Hispanic students still were the most common group in Karnes County County, representing 67.4% of the student body.

Karnes City Junior High School had the most even distribution of races among the county schools, including 74.5% Hispanic students, 20.3% white students, 3.3% Black students, 1.4% Multi-racial students, and 0.5% American Indian students.

In the 2021-22 school year, the total number of students enrolled in public schools in the county dropped 9.0% when compared to the previous year.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
