How many students were enrolled in Nixon-Smiley CISD schools in 2022-23 school year?

There were 1,045 students enrolled in Nixon-Smiley CISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 1.9% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51% of them were boys, and 49% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 74.7% of the Nixon-Smiley CISD total enrollment.

Nixon-Smiley CISD roughly covers schools within Gonzales County with its main office in Nixon.

Among the four schools in Nixon-Smiley CISD, Nixon Smiley Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of 458 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
