There were 14 Asian students enrolled in Lavaca County schools in the 2021-22 school year, the same number as in the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Lavaca County welcomed 2,517 students during the 2021-22 school year. Among them, Asian comprised 0.6% of the student body to be the third least represented ethnicity in the county.

Among the 10 schools in Lavaca County, only Hallettsville High School and Hallettsville Junior High School enrolled any Asian students, welcoming three students each in the 2021-22 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

“The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students…dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools…gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
