Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz is calling on the Biden Administration to halt reported plea deal negotiations with terrorists linked to the 9/11 attacks, a move that could eliminate the possibility of the death penalty. With the 22nd anniversary of the attacks approaching, De La Cruz expressed shock at the prospect of these terrorists evading the consequences of their actions. Her concerns stem from the potential miscarriage of justice that would occur, particularly for the families of the 2,977 innocent civilians and first responders who lost their lives that day.

De La Cruz's letter emphasizes the potential elimination of the death penalty for terrorists associated with the 9/11 attacks, a development that has sparked widespread concern over the pursuit of justice. The plea deal negotiations have raised significant unease, especially among the grieving families who fear that those responsible for the loss of their loved ones may escape appropriate punishment.

Expressing her outrage, De La Cruz condemned the possibility of allowing terrorists to essentially get away with mass murder, which led to the longest war in American history. She believes that the innocent civilians, first responders, and military personnel who lost their lives that day deserve better from their government. De La Cruz is determined to fight for justice for the victims of 9/11 and calls on others who have taken an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution to do the same.

The reported plea agreement, presented to the five defendants in the 9/11 attacks trial, offers to spare them the death penalty if they admit guilt and accept a life prison term. However, the defendants have countered with their own conditions, such as avoiding solitary confinement and having the opportunity to eat and pray alongside other inmates. Lawyers from both sides have been engaged in negotiations for approximately 1 1/2 years, awaiting indications from President Biden regarding his stance on certain defense requests.

As discussions continue, Congresswoman De La Cruz remains steadfast in her opposition to the plea deal negotiations. She believes that justice must be served for the victims of 9/11 and their families, and she urges the Biden Administration to put an end to these talks. With the anniversary of the attacks approaching, the nation must remember and honor those who lost their lives and ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act are held accountable.
