Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has suspended elective surgeries for hospitals in 75 counties across 11 trauma service areas to make sure beds are available for COVID-19 patients as a surge in cases continues.

Nonprofit pays Wharton County ranch to preserve thousands of acres

A Wharton County ranch will preserve as many as 5,000 acres of elm, green ash, hickory, oak and pecan trees for at least 10 years in a deal with a nonprofit group.
